Vaporetto lines to Torcello

Tourists come to the island Torcello in large numbers during the season. Practically all come by water bus. Otherwise you can only arrive with your own boat. The distance from Venice to Torcello is about 6 to 7 kilometers. Much closer to Torcello are the islands Burano and Mazzorbo, which are connected by a bridge. Visitors come to Torcello because of the oldest church of Venice and some other famous buildings. There are also some well-known and good restaurants on the lagoon island.

There is only one vaporetto ferry line to Tocello, namely line 12:

The waterbus line 12 connects the main island of Venice with some islands, namely Murano, Burano, Mazzorbo and Torcello. The line runs every 20 to 30 minutes during the day and it goes to the islands in the following order.

Access: Venice - Murano (Faro stop) - Mazzorbo - Torcello - Burano - Treporti (mainland) - Punta Sabbioni (mainland)

Return: Punta Sabbioni (mainland) - Treporti (mainland) - Burano - Torcello - Mazzorbo - Murano (Faro stop) - Venice

Notes on the individual stops of line 12:

Venice: Access only in the north of the island at the jetty called Fondamenta Nove. From other stops such as the train station or San Marco, you must first take another line to Fondamenta Nove and change there. Alternatively you can change to Murano, there are many vaporetti (plural of vaporetto) from Venice to Murano.

Murano Island: There are about 6 public ferry stops in Murano, line 12 stops only at the pier called Faro. Faro means lighthouse.

Mazzorbo Island: This quiet island is connected to the island of Burano by a bridge. So you can visit both islands without using a boat.

Burano Island: Burano and Torcello are visited by many tourists one day after the other.

Treporti: stop on the mainland on the peninsula that starts at Lido di Jesolo. Attention: not all water buses of line 12 go to this point. Before Corona only 1 per hour, currently (summer 2020 during Corona) even only a few per day.

Punta Sabbioni: There are large parking lots and therefore 30 minutes by bus to Jesolo. Attention: not all water buses of line 12 go to this point. Before Corona only 1 time per hour, currently (summer 2020 during Corona) even only a few per day.

Besides Torcello, you can visit 2-3 other islands in one day, which for some people is the most visited island.

From Venice airport you cannot get directly to Torcello. You first have to take a boat to the island of Murano or Venice and change there.

Our tip: Buy tickets for waterbuses beforehand

It is not always easy to buy tickets abroad. You don't know where to buy tickets, foreign ticket machines are difficult to use, there are language problems, queues, etc.

The 1, 2 or 3 day valid tickets for the waterbuses (ferries) in Venice are needed by almost every tourist. These tickets can now be bought on this english website.

The tickets for the bus from Venice airport to the city are available on this page in English language.

Our tip: Island hopping with Torcello

You can visit several islands in one day. Most tourists go to Torcello to visit the church. Dorr they look at some other old buildings and maybe the small museum. If you don't go to a restaurant for dinner in Torcello, you usually leave the island after 1 to 2 hours. So you can visit 1-2 more islands on the same day. According to the timetable above, Murano and Burano are especially suitable for this.

But there is also a great organized island tour with an own ship from Venice. On the tour you visit the 3 islands Torcello, Murano and Burano. Great is also the price of the tour, not even 20 Euro. Incredibly cheap in the otherwise so expensive Venice. The tour takes place daily and must be booked on the Internet.  >>>> More information and booking
