Car Park Venice: Autorimessa Comunale

Parking in Venice: You should reserve a parking space in the parking garage online in advance. Especially now at Corona time many people come to Venice by car. There is a great website for reserving parking spaces: Click Here

Insider tip:
Travel comfortably without queues, buy tickets online beforehand:

The Autorimessa Comunale (also: Garage Comunale AVM S.p.A.) is a public parking garage in Venice. Only a very small part of Venice can be accessed by car. Parking spaces are available there, but only in multi-storey parking lots. There are four parking garages in total. In Venice you have to book a place in the parking garage online in advance. The Autorimessa Comunale is our favorite parking garage.

The advantages for us of the Garage Comunale AVM compared to other parking garages in Venice is on the one hand its location. The parking garage is directly after the long bridge to Venice. The way to the beginning of the famous old town is only a few meters. The water buses, Venice's public transport system, depart almost directly from the Autorimessa Comunale parking garage. The parking fees in Venice are high. However, the Garage Comunale AVM is cheaper than the other parking lots in Venice.

Prices and booking Autorimessa Comunale

Parking in Venice is expensive. One day's parking costs between 23 and 34 euros, depending on the time and the parking garage. Before the Corona era, the parking garages right next to the old town were often fully booked. You had to switch to a huge parking garage next to Venice on an artificial island and take the train People Mover to the old town.

Now, in Corona times in summer 2020, you are more likely to get a parking space directly at the Garage Comunale AVM, at least if you book a few days in advance. There are still many tourists coming to Venice by car. The total number of visitors to Venice has been reduced by Corona. However, hardly anyone comes by plane from Italy, Austria or Germany. Almost all of them come with their own car.

Our tip: Buy tickets for waterbuses beforehand

It is not always easy to buy tickets abroad. You don't know where to buy tickets, foreign ticket machines are difficult to use, there are language problems, queues, etc.

The 1, 2 or 3 day valid tickets for the waterbuses (ferries) in Venice are needed by almost every tourist. These tickets can now be bought on this english website.

The tickets for the bus from Venice airport to the city are available on this page in English language.

Currently, parking at the Autorimessa Comunale Venice costs around 23.40 euros for 24 hours (August 2020). This price is valid for every 24 hours or part thereof.

Directions to Garage Comunale

There is only one bridge to Venice, the Freedom Bridge. It is the only access to the city without using a ship. On the Freedom Bridge there is a four-lane road and a four-track railroad line. You can drive on the bridge by car until the end. Just after the end of the bridge is the Autorimessa Comunale parking lot, just before the large Piazzale Roma bus station. The entrance to the Garage Comunale parking garage is clearly visible.

More info Garage Comunale Venice

Because of its good location and the low price compared to other parking garages, the Autorimessa Comunale is the most popular parking garage in Venice.

It is a very large parking lot with over 2,000 parking spaces. It is nevertheless often fully booked. Even now during Corona times in summer 2020 and beginning of 2024 the parking lot is very full.

There are also parking spaces for motorcycles (about 200).

Opening hours Autorimessa Comunale: The Garage Comunale AVM is open 24 hours a day every day of the week.

With the online booking confirmation (booking number) you can enter the parking garage at another lane. So you do not have to wait in a queue.

>>>   On this website you can book all parking spaces in Venice

The Autorimessa Comunale is in our opinion the best parking garage in Venice.

An overview of parking garages in Venice with booking options is available on this website. There are also parking garages on the mainland with bus connection to Venice.

"Autorimessa Comunale" is the Italian name of the parking lot, "Garage Comunale AVM" is the English name.

Our tip: Reserve a parking space

Parking is very difficult on the island of Venice. There are only the 4 parking garages at the entrance to the old town. These are often full. If you come by car, you should reserve in one of the parking garages in advance.

Corona Update Parking Venice

Currently all 4 parking garages in Venice are not very full and have similar prices. We therefore recommend two parking garages right next to the Old Town at Piazalle Roma.  These are Autorimessa Comunale AVM (often good offers) and Garage San Marco.     Be sure to book online in advance!

From the parking garage to Venice

Those who want to visit Venice can walk from the parking garage. The entrance to the old town is only 2 minutes away. But Venice is relatively large. From the Autorimessa Comunale to St. Mark's Square, the center of Venice, it is a 45-minute walk through the Old Town.

At about 50 meters from the Garage Comunale AVM is one of the largest stops for water buses (public ferries) in Venice. Almost every minute a water bus stops here. Some go up the Canal Grande to the Rialto Bridge and St. Mark's Square. There is also often a vaporetto (Italian name for water bus) to the islands of Murano Island, Lido and Giudecca. The one-way tickets for the waterbuses are expensive. It is better to buy a day ticket on the Internet (24h, 48h, 72h or 1 week). With these tickets you can take as much waterbus as you want. The tickets for the waterbuses are available on this website.
