In Venice, public transport on the main island and between the inhabited islands consists mainly of ferries. These ships are also called water buses or Italian vaporetti. This article is about the waterbus line 14, which brings tourists from beach resorts like Jesolo on the mainland to Venice, usually as part of a day trip. The ferry stops in Venice near St. Mark's Square. In addition, the ferries of line 14 take excursionists to the islands of Lido and Burano.

Since the Corona crisis, line 12 has only seldom departed from islands such as Murano and Burano to Punta Sabbioni, and line 14, which replaces Punta Sabbioni, now operates to Burano in addition to Lido and Venice. In Burano you can change to other islands like Murano and Torcello. Line 14 consists of large ferries that can carry many hundreds of people. The two-story ships are many times larger than the other vaporetti lines on Venice.

Many tourists buy their tickets in advance on the internet. One-way tickets are very expensive, it is better to buy tickets that are valid for one or more days. There are tickets for 24 hours. 48 hours. 72 hours or 1 week. >>>    On this link you can find the tickets for the waterbuses online

You can use the tickets to travel as much waterbus as you like during the period of validity. The tickets are also valid for buses in Venice. However, buses only operate in the districts of Mestre and Marghera on the mainland and some islands such as Lido and Pellestrina. However, these tickets are valid on the water buses of line 14 everywhere, including on the mainland to Punta Sabbioni, although Punta Sabbioni is not part of the municipality of Venice.

Punta Sabbioni

Punta Sabbioni is easily accessible by car and bus from the main tourist resorts s Venice. By car to Venice it would be a big detour, about 50 kilometers. Moreover, parking in Venice costs over 20 euros per day, in Punta Sabbioni a parking space costs only about 5 euros. The big water buses from Punta Sabbioni to Venice leave every 30 minutes during the day and only take about half an hour. In addition, many tourists from Punta Sabbioni make day trips to the islands of island of Burano and Lido Island, with transfers to other islands. In this guide we have also written a page about Punto Sabbioni (click here) and also pages about the beach resorts of Jesolo and Cavallino. From here it is only a few kilometers by ferry to Venice.

Course of the vaporetto line 14

The waterbus line 14 starts on the Burano Island. Next stop is the port Punta Sabbioni on the mainland (see above). Afterwards it goes to the island Lido di Venezia and then to Venice. Operating hours waterbus line 14 Venice

The water buses run day and night. Between about 5 a.m. and 11 p.m., the boats run approximately every 30 minutes between the port of Punta Sabbioni, Lido and Venice. At night the departures are about every hour.

Between Punta Sabbioni and Burano the water buses of line 14 run only from about 9 am to 5 pm once an hour in both directions. However, in the mornings and evenings outside these times there are some other smaller ferries of line 12 between Punta Sabbioni and Burano.

During the day you can reach Punta Sabbioni every 30 minutes by bus from Jesolo and Cavallino. There are very large parking lots in Punta Sabbioni, which usually cost 5 euros for a day. Thousands of tourists park here every day and take a vaporetto of line 14 to Venice, Burano or Lido.

Great is that the landing stage of the waterbus 14 in Venice is very central, it is only 200 meters on foot to St. Mark's Square. The pier in Venice is called San Marco Zaccaria.

At the port of Punta Sabbioni you can buy drinks and there is also a snack bar. There are also public toilets. The big ferries of line 14 also have a toilet, but in our experience this is often locked. Often the ferries are quite full, this also applies to the buses between Jesolo and Punta Sabbioni.

At Lido Island the vaporetti of line 14 stop at the waterbus stop Santa Maria Elisabetta. All other lines also go to this pier. From Lido Santa Maria Elisabetta there are also several bus lines with destinations on the island of Lido and also to the island of Pellestrina.

The water bus line 14 is operated by the company ACTV S.p.a.
